Nordic appetite for Maldives Holidays - |
| |
|
Finland was given a flavour of the Maldives during a special travel show between January 21 and 24.
The Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) took part in the MATKA tourism fair in Helsinki, Finland, alongside more than 1,200 travel trade exhibitors from 73 countries. The Maldives travel display focused on promoting the Maldives' campaign to win the international "New7 Wonders of Nature" competition. Visitors could cast their votes for the Maldives at the Maldives stand. There was an impressive response, with around 100 visitors voting per day. As an extra attraction there was a prize draw with prizes provided by Carpe Diem Maldives and Conrad Maldives at Rangali Island.
This year the MATKA fair saw 700 more visitors than in 2009. A survey conducted by the organisers found that more than 90 per cent of the visitors intend to travel this year as much as before, or even more, so the recession may not be dampening the wanderlust of the Finnish people.
Last year the Maldives welcomed more than 655,000 visitors of which more than 8,000 visitors were from Scandinavian countries.
